About
Natasha Wilch helps people build and rebuild moments.
I am both science and spirit
I am both logical and intuitive
I lead with both my mind and my embodiment
And for some that scares them
Because it’s not black and white
I dance between my logical, detective science brain and my intuitive body led feelings
I dance with fire and grace, with confidence and curiosity in the GREY every. single. day.
It’s what makes me amazing at what I do ...
In our clinical world we get told we need to:
Be “evidence based”
Follow the science
Have firm professional boundaries
We do NOT get taught:
To trust our instincts
To listen with senses other than words
To trust creativity
I struggled with this as I began to step into a place of leadership and mentorship. I worried about “not being science enough”, about seeming “too woo” to teach and mentor clinicians in this concussion space…about being too “feeling” and not enough “thinking”
But now - I believe it’s what we need MORE of in the healthcare space! We need to lead with compassion and connection ....
And so YES:
I believe in evidence based care
I believe in lessons of clinical experience
I’m a research junkie and think we should all be implementing the newest supported practices
But I ALSO believe in:
Listening to my gut and instincts
To letting a plan completely fall of the rails because it feels right
To building CONNECTION with my clients
And so that’s why when you mentor with me you get:
A framework of an approach that is supported by research and clinical experience..... but that allows you the space to flow as well
Workbooks to help implement learning to take notes and solidify the science based approaches to concussion care
The tools to shift research into practice NOW to have better outcomes with your clients
It’s why you ALSO get:
Discussions on creating safety within your relationships and why it’s important
Conversations on how you prioritize yourself so that you can expand your own capacity, creativity and growth
Answers to your questions that detour from the “rehab exercise” to how we support our clients in mindset and shifting beliefs
Because I lead with science and intuitive art.
And now, for a more formal bio. 😜
Natasha Wilch has been a Registered Physical Therapist since 2011. She attended the University of British Columbia where she earned a Bachelors in Health Science & Kinesiology and then her Masters in Physical Therapy.
Growing up in small town Cranbrook, BC, she always wanted to work in health care. You'd find her volunteering in the hospital’s extended care unit playing piano for the residents, decorating for the season, and reading. As a teenager she volunteered throughout the hospital as a candy striper.
The scope of physical therapy is massive and a therapist can choose to specialize in many different areas. From day one, Natasha has worked in neurology. She was inspired by her cousin, who became a quadriplegic after a motorcycle accident, and his stories about the amazing therapists who influenced him and helped him start a new chapter in his life. Natasha focused her clinical practice on working with individuals with spinal cord, stroke, Parkinson’s, and other neurological diagnoses. She continued to develop her toolbox in post graduate education in neurological rehab, functional neurology, chronic pain, IMS, acupuncture, neuro-optometry, and more.
When Natasha relocated to Nanaimo, BC in 2014 she wasn’t sure what to do next. She was on maternity leave with her 4 month old son, Hudson... and this turned out to be a blessing. As she began to look for work in her new city it became clear that there was a massive care gap for the neurological population she loved to treat. She decided to open her own clinic. Symphony Rehabilitation became official in May 2015.
Since then Natasha has embraced entrepreneurship and connecting with her community. Some highlights include:
Being one of the first clinics in Canada to step into telehealth and virtual care before it "was a thing." This led her to winning Canada's Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2017.
Winning the Physiotherapist Leadership Award of BC in 2020 for her leadership in the field.
Receiving Vancouver Island's Top 20 under 40 Business & Community Achievement Award for her work in the community.
Today, Natasha's passion is evolving the conversation and culture of concussion around the world. She does that through her clinic, Symphony Brain Performance, her online mentorship program for clinicians, Concussion Nerds, and through speaking engagements.
She believes powerfully that change will come from the front lines - the clinicians and clients. But for clinicians to do their best work they also need to take care of themselves. Natasha supports the WHOLE PERSON.
When she's not diving into more learning for herself (she's forever a student) you'll find her mentoring clinicians, working with clients, or spending time with her family.
